Fall Color Update – October 24, 2025
Last call for PEAK FALL COLOR in Northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.
In the Western U.P. most routes along the interior are past peak, however, you can still find patches of late PEAK COLOR along routes closer to Lake Superior.
In Norther Lower Michigan look for the best of the PEAK COLOR along routes closer to Lake Michigan, such as M-22 in Benzie County and Leelanau County and M-115 north of Harbor Springs, famous as the Tunnel of Trees.

Here’s a general guide to peak color weekends for 2024 in Northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. (Based on historical observation. Subject to adjustments by Mother Nature.)
Upper Peninsula
September 13 – 15, 2024 – Early Season Color with some the possibility of early season color coming along in the interior of the Upper Peninsula
September 20 – 22, 2024 – Generally, an Early Peak Color Weekend in the Upper Peninsula along interior routes – some areas may be starting to get into peak-season form. Early season color for most routes.
Sept. 27- 29, 2024 – Likely A Peak Color Weekend for interior routes. Early Season to Peak color along the lake shore routes of the Upper Peninsula
October 4 – 6, 2024 – Peak Color Weekend for routes closer to the lake with past peak conditions coming into play along interior routes.
October 11 – 13, 2024 – Past-Peak Color Weekend with some late-season color along routes closer to the shoreline in the Upper Peninsula
Northern Lower Michigan
September 13 – 15, 2024 – Early Color Weekend with some isolated areas (Gaylord, and interior parts north) that may be showing signs of early color.
September 20 – 22, 2024 – Still an early Color Weekend with some isolated, early peak color in interior regions of Northern Lower Michigan
Sept. 27 – 29, 2024 – Early Color Weekend to with some possible Peak Color in interior regions of Northern Lower Michigan
October 4 – 6, 2024 – Peak Color in some areas in the interior. Early season color along most routes.
October 11 – 13, 2024 – Peak Color Weekend in some regions closer to the lake shore – some interior regions in Northern Lower Michigan likely peak and past peak.
October 18 – 20, 2024 – Likely Past Peak Color Weekend for interior routes – look for the best of the remaining color near the lake shore routes in Northern Lower Michigan
